Manhattan Beach Centenial Kick-Off

Manhattan Beach, the hometown that we know and love, was officially incorporated in December 1912 and has a storied history that will be celebrated leading up to our Centennial in 2012. On Sunday, Jan. 29, the City of Manhattan Beach kicked off its year-long centennial celebration at Manhattan Village with entertainment, magicians, music and good old-fashioned fun. The next activity is an art contest for kindergarten through 12th grade students with one winner per grade. Entrants will submit art that shows their favorite thing about Manhattan Beach. Winning entries will be displayed at Taste of Manhattan, a ticketed event with food and entertainment, held downtown on March 25. A parade and historic picnic are planned for May 19, a centennial festival/downtown open house/MB Pier event will be held in July and a Centennial Ball on Sept. 22. The year-long centennial celebration will conclude with a special centennial fireworks display at the city’s annual December fireworks event. Flash Mob at South Bay Galleria Goes Viral

Nothing says “Christmas” like infiltrating a public space to sing in a choir while people 1) look confused 2) look with pure wonderment 3) laugh and record what’s happening on their cell phone. Journey of Faith from Manhattan Beach performed a Christmas “Flash Mob” at the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach on December 18, much to the delight of local shoppers. Missed this one over the holidays but I really encourage you to check it out, it has recieved over two million views. Thanks to all who participated.

Beach Kings Filmed On Location in the South Bay

Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks

Gather up the family, friends and neighbors for an evening of snow play, music and fireworks. It’s a perfect way to kick off the holiday season! The City of Manhattan Beach and Skechers present the 22nd Annual Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks extravaganza on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 7:30. The festivities begin at 4:00 pm with Santa making his entrance aboard the Chamber of Commerce float. Skechers’ Snow Park will be open from 4:00 to 6:30 pm with five 50’ sled runs, two snow play areas and snowmen available for family photos. A donation of canned goods, cash or a new, unwrapped toy is requested for admission to the Snow Park. The always popular Bounce Park will have two huge slides and the Fire Dog bouncie for smaller children and will be located in the parking lot on the south side of the Pier. The Hyperion Outfall Serenaders provide the sounds of the season starting at 5:00 pm and will be followed by the John Brown sing-a-long which will run until 7:00 pm.
