Beach Cities Pacific Electric Railway

Here is a look back at the Pacific Electric Railway,  a major railway system that once ran through the city. The “red car” line that ran through the Beach Cities was launched  in 1910 to connect Los Angeles to the Beach Cities and was discontinued in 1940. The remenant of the old line was developed into what is now known as the greenbelt, the community nature trail that extends through Hermosa  and Manhattan. The Hermosa Beach Historical Museum has old photographs on display showing the local electrical switching station that propelled the cars along Hermosa Avenue.
